Richelle is a healthcare attorney with a focus on medical coding, billing and reimbursement; HIPAA privacy and security; health information management; and regulatory compliance. She has in-house experience as a health information management professional including as interim director of managed care contracting; interim health system privacy officer, compliance coordinator, billing office coordinator, medical coder, medical records clerk and certified nurse aide. She has helped successfully recover or retain millions of dollars for healthcare organizations and individuals through defending payor audits and preparing appeals. Richelle has also served as an expert in litigation supporting attorneys on matters related to health information management, reimbursement, and privacy.

Valerie Shea

JD, BSHIM, RHIA

Marting Law is excited to announce the expansion of our health information management and legal expertise with the addition of attorney Valerie Shea. Valerie has prepared successful ALJ appeals in long term care and professional billing and brings a unique perspective on elder law and estate planning matters' interactions with the healthcare system to the team. Since joining Marting Law, Valerie has successfully overturned third party payor claim denials, defended and settled Medicare and Medicaid targeted case management, DME, and applied behavioral analysis audits. Her work in healthcare business transactions continues to grow, as she guides healthcare providers and facilities through critical contract negotiations and business dispute resolution.

Madisyn Schmitz

Madisyn is a registered health information administrator who supports the team's work in health information management matters. Madisyn is currently earning her Master's in Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas School of Medicine Department of Population Health, and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kansas School of Law.  She brings her industry experience as a solution delivery analyst intern with Netsmart and six sigma green belt certification to the team to help efficiently produce practical deliverables in a timely manner.

Taryn is president and founder of BAC10 Solutions, LLC. Taryn brings her healthcare compliance and health information management background to the team to support review and development of reimbursement matters that translate to optimizing revenue cycle collections activities.

Jerica Contreras

Jerica brings her clinical education to the team to help hospitals' clinical validation appeal success rates thrive. Jerica has worked in grievances and appeals for a Florida Medicaid plan and now uses her experience to help dispute denials or payment reductions on hundreds of inpatient claims a year and successfully overturning hundreds of thousands of dollars at issue in those appeals.

Kaitlyn Willis

Kaitlyn Willis brings her valuable experience in electronic billing processes to the team as a tremendous asset for our work in managing denials and appeals for healthcare providers and facilities. Kaitlyn has worked in pharmacy and specialty ambulatory clinic settings and her professional experience is supplemented by her education at the University of Kansas School of Allied Health's esteemed bachelor's of science in health information management program. Kaitlyn's HIM background enables her to contribute to the team's data analytics, coding and billing support, litigation support, revenue cycle management, policy management, and professional workforce training services. Kaitlyn has contributed to the team's success in avoiding adverse MAC TPE findings, producing favorable appeals to overturn payer denials, and manages large refund request responses and appeals.

Sara Boyce

Sara has years of experience in health information management, coding, and auditing and brings her expertise to the team to support auditing and revenue integrity activities. Sara has worked in-house with healthcare organizations to code, bill, audit, and train in areas of revenue cycle management across multiple specialties. She has practical experience as an authorization specialist verifying benefit and obtaining coverage authorizations.

Susan Thomas

CIA, CRMA, CHC, CPC

Susan joins the team with extensive experience in healthcare compliance consulting. Among her publications and accolades, Susan also brings her unique certification as a healthcare internal audit professional and certification in risk management assurance to offer particular insight into audit and appeal processes. She has spent nearly three decades working in a variety of regulatory and clinical capacities including compliance program management, provider practice administration, healthcare advocacy, internal audit, and quality outcomes. A former clinical director and outreach initiative coordinator, Susan has a demonstrated record of success in program development and expansion as well as the ability to form mutually beneficial relationships.
